They use pouches with extra lead, like these SECURITY Bags, constructed of flexible lead fabric, covered with pliable and durable DuPont Cordura nylon. The Large size holds 45 unboxed canisters of 35 mm film, or 50 rolls without canisters. Similar to X-ray aprons in radiology labs, and is by far the most effective X-ray protection we've found for travellers. (33.5 x 24cm; 453g) Note: Carry your film in your carry-on baggage whenever possible; check-in luggage may receive a much higher dose of radiation from the high-tech scanners used in many airports. Also, for security reasons, you will likely be asked to empty the contents for inspection.
